£320 highest ever win buys bicycles for Africa

by Chris | News

Michael Groll won the highest ever £320 pot on the 8th of July. He’s improving his home & donating the rest to the Re-cycle charity.

Whenever someone win’s on FPL I ask for some comments so that I can show other users that the money is actually being won (I’m still getting regular scam accusations – they’ll never stop). On this occasion I really wanted to hear back from the winner since it was our biggest ever win by far. So, I was delighted when Michael got in touch and told me about how he is spending his winnings.

Part of the money is going towards painting his house and changing light fittings. But he’s also making a donation to Re-cycle:

Charity Re-Cycle collects unwanted bicycles and ship them to a number of African countries to provide simple, affordable transport and change people’s lives. In Britain, millions of bikes are thrown away or lie unused in sheds, whilst many people in Africa have no access to transport of any kind. People spend hours each day walking to collect water, firewood or to access health care, school and employment. A bicycle lightens this burden and dramatically improves their wellbeing as well as work and education opportunities helping to bring social change.

Michael discovered FPL in November 2011 when he came across it on one of the MoneySavingExpert.com forums (Thanks again MSE!) He has a bonus of over £7 which also went towards his winnings. He’s from Coleshill, a small town in the West Midlands which, in his words, still has some independent shops and character. Like me, he plays tennis in his spare time.

Well done Michael! 🙂
