  • It is indeed Lindisfarne (aka Holy Island) Castle, TD15 2SH.

As a Northumbrian I remember spending a weekend on Lindisfarne in my teens with several school friends. Our RE teacher took us there as cheap (free) labour to work on the renovation of an old house. His connection to the house escapes my memory. We were happily stripping plaster off one of the internal walls when we were horrified to start exposing tufts of hair. We suspected we were starting to disinter a poor lost soul who'd been bricked into the wall in years gone by, so it was a great relief to learn that in previous centuries wall render was mixed with horse hair to reinforce the lime plaster. Whew!

Lindisfarne was a lovely place to be with an amazing history, and who doesn't love the art of the Lindisfarne Gospels?
