I managed to read the first word as “Dorset” so did a bit of Googling. I found an interesting website which explains the wording on the plaque. Apparently many of the older Dorset bridges have signs on them similar to the photo in the PMP blog, threatening transportation if anyone was found damaging them. In the case of the plaque featured, the wording probably says “that any person wilfully injuring any part of this county bridge will be guilty of felony and upon conviction liable to be transported for life”. Unfortunately I still haven’t worked out exactly where the bridge is. The photo looks as though it is made of large stone blocks with a high parapet but the pictures I found online look like the sign is on bricks. I’m guessing it might be Wool Bridge in Dorset – BH20 6HQ.

I zoomed in but couldn't read the sign. Is it the one that has the official named as Fooks? Part of my family, so I would like to visit it if you can share any details like the what3words code that would be great. Thanks.

It looks like the bridge on the way down to the Cat and Fiddle from Pickets Post - the one they are always repairing. No idea of postcode but it should be BH something!

Depends on whether you want the sign, or the bridge. I believe the sign was knocked off the bridge in an accident and was picked up and held for safekeeping by Pat Cosgrove at her cottage at DT2 8PZ.

EX13 7TY is the closest I can find, to this Longbridge over the River Yarty near Stockland, Devon. (Yes, now in Devon not Dorset)!

Well done, I'd have never thought of looking in Devon for a bridge with a "Dorset" sign!
