Today (April the 1st if it’s no longer today) is Pick My Postcode’s 13th birthday, so we thought it would be fun, and not at all weird, if we celebrated our website becoming a teenager. Apologies for the AI generated image by the way. It’s apparently all the rage.
And apologies for my (Chris’) absence (Hi, I’m Chris). It’s been a long time since I’ve taken to the blog, which is something I used to do a lot. I’ve been focusing on launching our market research business (Find Out Now), which is driven by your Survey Draw responses – so thanks for those! It’s been a long slog, in a crowded industry, but we seem to have broken through, so much so that I’ve hired an actual expert to help me. So, I should be making some more appearances here, which you may see has a good thing, a bad thing, or a “prefer not to say” thing. Of course, you will still be hearing more from May, who has been doing an excellent job.
Admittedly, 13-year-old PMP, is a little temperamental, scruffy, and well… rough around the edges. We’re acutely aware. The pages are loaded full of ads that are usually totally irrelevant, at best… The online ad world has been a wild west for a while, and we’re not Jesse James. We actively block gambling ads (sorry, they sometimes slip through), and don’t allow intrusive formats that “pop up” or stick the the page. We don’t pull the same tricks that other websites do that allow you to be tracked across the internet without your knowledge. Unfortunately, that leaves us with slim pickings, and our ad revenue has been awful for a while.
However, that’s set to change later this year, when Google Chrome “deprecates the 3rd party cookie” (stop advertisers from following you around the internet unless you explicitly say they can). Because you’re all logged in, and about half of you share information about your selves on our Survey Draw, we will be asking if we can share some of that non-personal information to attract better advertisers. You should start seeing ads that are more relevant, trustworthy, and actually make us some decent money. Hopefully, we can start giving away more money… soon.
Also this year, Teenage PMP should soon be getting a makeover. Actually, a full rebuild, to make it snappier, cleaner and easier to use. Watch this space.
We hope to be launching more services that save and make you money, like Snip, which has been getting some amazing feedback. It costs £3 per month (or £30 per year) but once you start using it, it takes no time to make that money back in savings. Hundreds of PMPers are now saving between 4-6% on their supermarket shops, as well as 10% off at John Lewis, and other great discounts. If you haven’t tried it yet, please try Snip here.
I’m really looking forward to PMPs teens, and I hope you are too. As always, we’d love to hear your suggested ideas and improvements in the comments below, or you can email us at admin@pickmypostcode.com if you’re shy.
And one thing is for sure… We will not be introducing an AI Draw. Not this year anyway.
Love
Chris & Team PMP x
