Cardigan is a small town with good jeans. If you live in SA43 then perhaps you are one of the 10% of the 4000 strong population that works at The Hiut Denim Company, which was opened by the community to make use of the skills that were lying dormant in the town.
A jeans factory closed down after 30 years of trading in Cardigan. The workforce was made up of 400 local people who produced 35,000 pairs of jeans every week and suddenly they were without jobs.
They took matters into their own hands and decided to bring manufacturing home through the creation of The Hiut Denim Company. The jeans are pricey but reasons to shop with them go beyond the fact that you’ll supporting a UK business, there are other perks that come with your purchase.
You get free repairs for life (they must be washed before you send them back, fair enough), you’ll get a special product (only 100 jeans are made per week, their ethos is to make the best jeans they can, not the most), and you’ll be part of a forward thinking movement (check out the No Wash Club and Denim Breaker Club).
