Last Saturday I visited the Shrouds of the Somme exhibit in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Upon entering, there’s a path leading to an elevated platform, giving you true perspective and appreciation of what Rob Heard has painstakingly created over the past 4 years.
It was from this position that I took pause and listened to a woman reading out of the names of the fallen from the ledger. This, paired with the physical manifestation of the sheer number of dead, truly displayed the enormity and gut wrenching reality of what came to pass 100 years ago, and was a stark reminder of how fragile peace can be.
Shrouds of Somme is showing until 7pm this Sunday (18th). Your amazing response to their Kickstarter campaign helped make it happen. Go and see it if you can.
